Favorite Things Monday: Women Working
April 30, 2007
Today I really need Favorite Things Monday. It’s the kinda day for which FTM was created: 1) I did not get a new job that I really really wanted. By the skin of my teeth. Like after they called my references (including my current boss). The other person had a “strong internal endorsement.” Argh. 2) Five minutes later, I got a call from Mr. “Why Can’t You Perform Miracles?” faculty member and I let the call go to voicemail. 3)Despite about 2 weeks of trying, I can’t seem to post this big blog-gift update. WordPress hates me. Or perhaps WordPress hates Flickr. 4) My sidebar sucks and I’ve been too lazy to fix it.
This picture came from a calendar. I don’t remember what calendar. I don’t remember what year. Considering that I’ve owned it for at least 8 years, I’m guessing it came from a political paraphenalia supply house of some sort or another. 99% of my political posters have relocated to a lovely cardboard box in the basement (as yet not the recycling), but I love this image so much that I cut it out of the calendar, framed it, and it’s hung in every home that I’ve lived in. Today, it seems particularly appropriate.
More favorites from an awesome weekend:
- a bottle of red wine with Wifey (yeah no preggie!);
- took Little Man to the lumber yard;
- re-built an 8′x10′ grape arbor with Wifey (yeah no preggie!);
- engaged in some dick swinging at the plumbing supply house (a story for another day);
- fixed the last bit of plumbing in my upstairs bathroom;
- rediscovered my local FreeCycle and scored a free lawn mower;
- celebrated a family birthday;
- knit the Dale;
- pulled the toe off a Monkey (that sounds bad);
- used a circular saw for the first time and didn’t lose a limb;
- used a chisel for the first time;
- felt like a baaaaadaaaaaaasss for most of those 48 hours; and
- got my SOCKPAL assignment!!

Good question fro Maryse–did they totally screw you over at your current job before not giving you the new job? Sucks either way.
But hooray for all the kickass tool stuff!

I echo Ashley — Boo! for job stuff; Yay! for home improvement. And I love the calendar photo.

So, this weekend was the first time you used a circular saw without losing a thumb? This was the first time you used a circular saw. Additionally, you did not lose a thumb?
(No pregnant is a good state, but then again I am 40+ with three kids.)

Northern Sun! I love them. Thanks for the link!
I don’t know how you get so much done. Honestly. Plumbing and carpentry all in one weekend?
The job thing sucks, but we already talked about that. Sigh. Still sorry.

No way to end a good weekend. You got more done than I could ever hope too. In fact, I’m up to my arse in WIPs which all seem like they’re taking foreeevvvverrr. Maybe if I stuck to one thing long enough I could finish each one in a timely manner. Is this an ADD thing? Sorry about the job. I’m getting burnt out on mine [like 6 professors are TOO many at one time thank you.] But my mantra is “only 4 years to retire, only 4 years” … yet I know that your’s needs to be something like, “someday my ship will come in, my ship will come in.”
Keep knitting when you’re not swinging a hammer!

Great Picture! Calendars are quite often the best resources for pictures and quotes.
The job – ouch and ugh and a whole list of other not nice words. Enough said, as the right one is still out there lurking about waiting for you to find it.
I am in awe of the amount of things you can do. I am not allowed to touch powertools that can dismember anything, as I can require stitches just using a good knife the wrong way. I want to learn plumbing but wifey is not too sure that I have the right patience. YUK!
We need more women like you around to remind us that we can do anything we want to!
Are you running for President? I would be on your campaign in a heartbeat!

Dammit, how do I always miss out on these Sockapaloozas?
How is the Monkey repair going?

Bummer about the job and WordPress grief. Want me to go kick some b-u-double-t for you?
Just give me the word!
I like the frame and the list you put together, and I am DYING to see what you did at the plumbing supply place.
Bunny hugs!

So crappy about the job! I’m sorry. Hope the dick swinging made up for it. You know I’m waiting with bated breath for THAT story. Sounds like an amazing, productive weekend!
